Oil Search hits oil in Kurdistan Region of Iraq

Oil Search Limited has struck hydrocarbon at a well situated in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq’s Taza prospect

According to the Australia-listed company, Taza-2 well was drilled at a depth of 3,255 metres and penetrated the Jeribe Formation, encountering hydrocarbon shows in line with prognosis, and an 18-metre core was cut in the carbonate reservoir. Good recovery of the core was achieved and a comprehensive analysis programme is planned, Oil Search Limited said.

Taza-2 oilwell is located 10km north-west of Taza-1 well and is designed to appraise the hydrocarbon-bearing intervals discovered by the latter, as well as explore deeper Tertiary and Cretaceous targets, including the Shiranish Formation.

Oil Search (Iraq) Limited has a 60 per cent interest in the block with Total E&P Kurdistan Region of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government with 20 per cent interest each.
