Oil production in Libya rises steadily

Exploration & Production

Oil production in Libya has continued to demonstrate its strong post-revolution recovery by rising to more than 75 per cent of Gaddafi-era production levels

Government spokesman Nasser al-Manaa told journalists at a press conference in Tripoli that Libya's current level of production had reached 1.45mn bpd – the highest level since the uprising to overthrow Muammar Gaddafi began in February 2011.

Prior to the uprising, Libya was producing 1.6mn bpd, of which 1.3mn bpd was exported, however, during the revolt crude oil production was brought to a virtual standstill.

Al-Manaa said that the Libyan authorities expected output to exceed pre-uprising levels by the end of 2012.
