Lamprell opens Hamriyah facility to cap a successful year

Lamprell officially opened its main facility in Hamriyah Free Zone, Sharjah that helps cap a really strong year for the energy Group which has expanded its reach and capabilities.


The official launch of the Group’s main facility follows over three years of construction and an investment of US$75mn in the state of the art facility.

The inauguration was attended by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and other UAE dignitaries and Lamprell’s customers and partners.

“Our expansion would not have been possible without the total support of your Highness and the Government of Sharjah,” added Steven Lamprell, President, Lamprell.

With an area covering 335,000 m² and a quayside of over 1.4km , the Hamriyah yard is one of the region’s foremost facilities for the manufacture of oil & gas assets, with capacity to accommodate up to 13 jack up rigs simultaneously and an additional six rigs in various stages of construction throughout.

The facility will focus on the construction of new build jackup rigs, liftboats and rig refurbishment projects. The facility is fully API-accredited and hosts a main administration building which is home to over 600 administration staff, a client office, several workshops and warehouse space.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nigel McCue, Chief Executive Officer of Lamprell, said, “This facility increases the Group’s capacity significantly both in terms of area and quality and technology, helping position Lamprell as one of the leading yards in the world and cementing its position as the premier global provider of rig refurbishment services.”

2011 “has been a significant year for the Lamprell Group,” added McCue. He described the opening of the Hamriyah facility in the context of Lamprell very successful year with the facility opening being seen as the final piece in the picture.
McCue explained, “We have a healthy order book and growing opportunities in almost all of our markets. Our geographical coverage now spreads across eight markets including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Kazakhstan and others.”

Lamprell recently acquired MIS, which is also based in Sharjah. McCue arguing that “the synergies between the two companies have strengthened our position as a leading provider of diversified engineering and contracting products and services to the oil & gas and the renewables industry.”
