Kuwait Energy hits oil and gas in Egyptian concession

Exploration & Production

Kuwait Energy has announced that it El Salmiya-3 well, located in the Abu Sennan concession, has hit oil and gas

The well encountered approximately eight metres of net oil pay in the Abu Roash ‘C’, of which a six metre interval was perforated, the company said.

During the flow test, the reservoir achieved a rate of 4,800 bpd of 39º API crude along with 169,901 cubic metres of gas per day through a 64/64” choke. The reservoir is currently undergoing a ‘flow after flow’ testing programme to determine the optimum choke size to produce the well.

Kuwait Energy added that the result underlines the stacked potential of the El Salmiya Field, which is now producing from the Abu Roash ‘C’, the Abu Roash ‘E’ and the Kharita Formation.

The drilling rig is currently rigging up to spud El Salmiya–4 well, which will further appraise the extent of the Abu Roash reservoirs, as well as the Bahariya and Kharita Formation discoveries.

The partners in the Abu Sennan Concession include Kuwait Energy Egypt with 50 per cent stake and operator Dover Investments with 28 per cent interest. Beach Energy carries the remaining 22 per cent in the concession.
