Dana Petroleum wins two new blocks in Egypt’s Western Desert

Exploration & Production

Dana Petroleum has been awarded two new oil blocks — West Dakhla 1 and West Dakhla 2 — in Egypt’s Western Desert

The UK-based explorer, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Korea National Oil Corporation, had won the blocks through the Ganoub El Wadi Petroleum Holding Company (GANOPE) bid round in 2010.

The first three-year exploration phase will see aeromagnetic survey work and the acquisition of 500km of 2D seismic, Dana Petroleum said.

Paul Barnett, MD of Dana Petroleum, Egypt, said, “These two concessions in the Western Desert are a welcome addition to the exploration portfolio. This, along with the award of the South Wadi Dara block in the Gulf of Suez we announced at the end of 2013, will help us build our exploration activities in Egypt.”
