The SPE International Heavy Oil Conference and Exhibition (HOCE) was inaugurated at Hilton Kuwait Resort, Kuwait.
Organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the event is the first edition of its kind in the Middle East to completely focus on heavy oil. The applicable theme of the conference is "Heavy Oil Challenges, Learnings, and Opportunities".
Technical scope
The technical scope will encompass an executive plenary session titled "Leading the Oil Industry for a Sustainable Development of Heavy Crude", two panel sessions titled "Heavy Oil: Learnings and Opportunities" and "Heavy Oil: The Cutting Edge of New Technology and Bridging the Gap", a one-day training course about enhanced oil recovery, an education day, and over 40 technical presentations discussing the full range of heavy oil technologies, case histories, and best practices.
A parallel exhibition runs alongside the conference in a 1,000 sq. metre area with representation from leading companies to showcase the latest technologies, equipment, tools, and services offered internationally for heavy oil development.
Schlumberger
The Schlumberger stand will have representatives from various business segments with specific technical presentations related to heavy oil seismic acquisition, reservoir simulation, SAGDRIL fluids, dielectric scanner, thermal cementing techniques, completion systems, Hotline ESP artificial lift, and Vx multiphase flow meter.
Chevron
Saudi Arabian Chevron will discuss their Wafra Full Field Steamflood Project which has the potential to be world's largest project of its kind, as well as the first conventional steamflood in a carbonate reservoir.
They have been working jointly with Kuwait Oil Company and are in the third phase of a more than decade-long staged assessment to determine the technical and economic viability of employing steam to produce the heavy oil in the onshore Partitioned Zone's carbonate reservoirs.
GlassPoint Solar
GlassPoint Solar, a leader in Solar Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) will discuss how their steam generators can displace up to 80 per cent of the natural gas normally used to fuel thermal EOR operations, and are designed specifically for operation in GCC oilfield environments.
Zenith Oilfield Technology
Zenith Oilfield Technology will be showcasing its new cutting edge XT extreme temperature monitoring system and its pioneering Z-Sight automated well surveillance technology.
Alkhorayef
Alkhorayef will discuss their top quality products and superior field services for oil, gas, and water industries and why it is a leading ESP contractor in the Middle East.
Eastern United Petroleum Service and Falcon Oilfield Services will be presenting EOR surveillance services.
