The event will be hosted by Qatar Petroleum (QP) and is under the patronage of Dr Mohammed Saleh Al Sada, minister of energy and industry.

The opening ceremony will include remarks by Qatar's minister of energy and industry and Said Mubarak Al Mohannadi, conference chairman and director of operations at Qatar Petroleum; and 2013 SPE president Egbert Imomoh, Chairman of Afren.

“With the industry’s inevitable battle to increase production despite environmental and technical challenges, the significance and precedence of this event is unmatched,” Al Mohannadi said. “The event will combine a world-class technical conference with an international exhibition, offering the opportunity for industry leaders to share ideas, exchange technical knowledge, and to discuss current production and operations related issues all under one roof.”

The conference technical agenda will include an executive plenary session discussing the theme Production Optimisation Challenges: Meeting Global Energy Demand; five panel sessions on topics including redefining NOC/IOC/service provider relationships, strategies and technology for fast tracking field development, operations and maintenance strategies to optimise value, carbon management: problem and opportunity, and human capital development; 29 technical sessions with more than 85 technical presentations and various poster presentations; and seven training courses to be held prior to the conference on 13 May.

An exhibition will be held alongside the conference to showcase the latest technologies available in production and operations and is being attended by all the major oil and gas companies in the region.
