Iraq, home to the world's fifth-biggest oil reserves, has been seeking investment and expertise to help boost the country's oil and gas exports and reserves. The country has an estimated 143 billion barrels of crude oil.
At the start of 2011 Iraq's oil production reached a new peak in over 20 years with oil output standing at 2.7mn bpd up from 2.4mn bpd last year.
This improvement is seen as a result of improved efforts by the country's oil ministry and investments by IOCs like Shell, Europe's largest oil company, to finally start developing Iraq's massive oil fields.
