KOGS 2019 opens in Kuwait

Under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Kuwait His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the 4th Society of Petroleum Engineers Kuwait Oil & Gas Show (KOGS 2019) Exhibition opened on 14 October 2019, at the Kuwait International Fair in Mishref, Kuwait

His Excellency Dr. Khaled Al-Fadhel, Minister of Oil, Electricity & Water of the State of Kuwait and Hashem Sayed Hashem, deputy chairman and CEO of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) performed the official exhibition opening ceremony, accompanied by an entourage of senior officials from KPC and subsidiaries, government representatives, and senior oil and gas executives. HE Dr. Khaled Al-Fadhel toured the 14,000 sq m showcase of oil and gas products and services, which features more than 190 companies from 30 countries and is the largest oil and gas exhibition in Kuwait.

The exhibition features key stakeholders, major players, suppliers and service providers and serves all areas of the oil and gas industry. Principal regional exhibitors include KPC and subsidiaries, BAPCO, EQUATE and Delta Corporation. Complementing these regional giants is a host of international powerhouses including Baker Hughes, BP, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, Halliburton, Shell and Weatherford, local and regional oilfield services companies such as NESR and Gas & Oilfield Services Company alongside independent specialist suppliers and distributors from Kuwait and around the world. The exhibition also features a national group from Egypt.

A four-day high level conference runs alongside the exhibition. The conference opening on 13 October included keynote speeches from His Excellency Dr. Khaled Al-Fadhel, Minister of Oil, Electricity and Water, State of Kuwait; Hashem Sayed Hashem, deputy chairman and CEO, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation; and Sami Alnuaim, 2019 SPE president, Saudi Aramco.

HE Dr Al Fadhel highlighted the challenges facing the oil and gas industry, including developing techniques of oil production and refining, digitising product marketing, climate change, and cybercrime. He underlined Kuwait’s role in maintaining stability in the oil markets and stressed the need for bringing in world class expertise to boost the country’s technical capabilities.

“We always work on developing and bringing the latest technologies to the oil industry and seeking to benefit from advanced technological methods,” he said.

HE Dr Al Fadhel stressed Kuwait’s commitment to reducing the industry’s greenhouse gas emissions.

“Kuwait as an oil-producing country works on adapting the oil industry to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and qualify oil operations to become environment-friendly,” he said.

Hashem Sayed Hashem said that KPC is focusing on enhancing oil exports and ramping up gas production as part of its 2040 growth strategy.

"We are deploying new technologies for our maturing fields for smart and efficient operations. We are moving towards an integrated value chain from our reservoirs to our petrochemicals complexes," he said, adding that KPC is also focusing on offshore oil exploration and is developing its petrochemicals industry.
