Dubai Health, Safety & Environment Forum closes to high acclaim

The fifth edition of the Dubai Health, Safety & Environment Forum has officially concluded, ending two days of high-level debates and discussions on the challenges of occupational health and safety, human aspects of HSE, and investing in employees’ safety and well being

The industry-leading event featured an array of high-level local and international speakers and attracted delegates from the HSE community, spanning government, business and safety professionals.

The event saw delegates absorbing some informative presentations, participating in animated networking session and lively panel discussions. The latest safety and protection solutions were showcased on the sidelines of the event.

Faaeza Al Katheeri, geoscience manager, ADNOC - Al Dhafra Petroleum, held the audience in rapt attention as she spoke about effective leadership in achieving 100 per cent HSE. Her presentation highlighted interesting case studies of how HSE culture in organisations is a top-down process, fostered by collaboration and open communication.

The audience got to hear first-hand from Dr Taufiq Omeish, Sr HSE Manager, Dubai Electricity & Water Authority, on how Dubai’s utilities provider maintains the highest levels of compliance to international HSE standards.

Other discussions included the role of a framework that is prepared to ensure a climate-friendly solution for work environments. Dr Maisoon Ali Alshaali, head of Environmental Section, Ministry of Health & Prevention said in a presentation that the framework wants to assure the expansion of health surveillance; and enhance data protocol related to climate factors. The framework will focus on four points: governance, policy and engagement for health protection from climate change; climate resilience; enhancement management and mobilising public support for health and climate change.

According to multiple speakers in the event, investing in the employees’ safety and well being is the road to a better business.

Nancy Nouameih, vice-president Quality & Safety, Abela & Co. who said that the company has taken a human-centric approach – saying, “Give your employees, colleagues and coworkers a reason to believe in: you, the team, their contribution counts.” She added, “As safety practitioners and leaders it is our job to remove barriers to effective work; to do that requires a shift in mindset to incorporate more into our safety programmes and policies.”

The fifth edition of the event was held at the Habtoor Grand Resort, Autograph Collection Dubai from 24-25 November 2019.
