The UAE is planning to step up its oil exports to six million barrels in April via the Fujairah pipeline that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz

Sultan Al Mehairi, marketing and refining director at Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), said, “We are planning to increase exports from Fujairah pipeline gradually on a monthly basis.

“We could be reaching up to six million barrels this month.”

The pipeline, which opened in July 2012 and can transport 1.5mn bpd, is still operating at limited capacity. Most oil cargoes are currently being shipped from Abu Dhabi’s Jebel Dhanna oil terminal.

The 400km link will enable Abu Dhabi to export around 75 per cent of its crude from Fujairah pipeline, located on the Gulf of Oman, at periodic interval where tankers can pick up oil instead of sailing it into the Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz, the waterway watched over by Iran.
