Golar LNG and Kuwait sign FSRU deal

Gas

Golar LNG has signed an agreement with Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) for the supply of a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) for importing gas

The New York-listed vessel owner has signed an initial five-year agreement to provide its newbuild FSRU Golar Igloo for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) import project at Mina al Ahmadi.

The contract, worth US$213mn, will be applicable for nine months a year, Golar LNG said.

The 170,000 cubic metre vessel will be delivered by South Korean builder Samsung Heavy Industries in October this year with the KNPC contract starting in March 2014.

Earlier this month, Golar LNG had also sealed a long-term deal to provide another FSRU newbuild — the Golar Eskimo — to Jordan at the Port of Aqaba.

The vessel will be capable of storing 160,000 cubic metres of LNG and will deliver up to 14mn cubic metres per day of natural gas to Jordan’s power plants via its pipeline network, with peak capacity of 21mn cubic metres, the company said.
