Petrofac has been awarded a substantial services contract by the In Salah Gas and In Amenas joint ventures in Algeria
Under the terms of the three-year contract, Petrofac’s Engineering and Consulting Services (ECS) business will provide a range of multi-discipline consultancy, design and procurement services on the joint-venture projects, which are owned by a consortium comprising Sonatrach, BP and Statoil, the firm said in a statement.
These activities will support the joint ventures’ development programme to augment hydrocarbon production on both the In Salah and In Amenas assets and it has been anticipated that around 60 to 80 personnel will support the contract throughout the initial three-year period, with the potential exists to extend the contract by two additional one-year options.
A significant proportion of the services will be delivered from Petrofac’s local engineering centre in Algiers.
Craig Muir, managing director of ECS, commented, “This award is strategically important to Petrofac. It expands our presence in Algeria where the group’s track record extends over the last 15 years. As a result, we will continue to develop our capability in Algeria, to establish a local engineering centre with strength and depth, supporting our longer-term sustainability in-country.
“In addition to building our capability, we are committed to supporting In Salah Gas and In Amenas in their development plans and looking forward to undertaking the project scope.”
