Carbon capture, u*lisa*on and storage (CCUS) is a hot topic
given its poten*al in helping to reduce emissions. CCUS
deployment must reach at least 5.6 Gigatons of CO
2
by 2050
globally from 40 million tons today to meet the Paris
Agreement and UN Sustainable Development Goals, according
to the Interna*onal Energy Forum (IEF). The Middle East is well
place to become a leader in the deployment of CCUS solu*ons,
with Saudi Arabia set to host the world’s largest CCUS hub. See
p18 for a discussion of the issues.
Qatar con*nues to push ahead with its massive North Field
Expansion to maintain is posi*on in the global LNG market
(p10), while other countries are following its lead and switching
the focus to gas, in line with energy transi*on strategies (p14).
