Halliburton’s new refracturing service could increase operator profits

Technology

Halliburton has launched the ACTIVATE refracturing service to obtain insights into oil sub-surfaces and aid with increasing profits for oil well operators

The service is a collaborative workflow that leverages the insight, expertise and breakthroughs in diversion technology to recover bypassed reserves from unconventional wells more predictably and repeatedly, said Halliburton.

Given the current price of commodities such as oil, adding more refracs to unconventional portfolios can help increase the profitability of the operators’ assets, added the company.

Halliburton president (Western Hemisphere) Jim Brown said, “Our customers can be confident that Halliburton’s ACTIVATE service has shown that it can help deliver their projects at a lower cost per BOE, and that we are helping reduce the unpredicatability that has surrounded refracturing projects in the past.”

It is imperative to generate predictable results from refracked wells as operators can increase their chances to develop a balanced portfolio with production distributed across wells, infills and refracs. This helps drive down cost per barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) break-even point of their specific assets, explained the oilfield services company. Specially, in basins where Halliburton has delivered the ACTIVATE Service, operators are witnessing, on average, an 80 per cent increase in Estimated Ultimate Recovery (EUR) per well, 66 per cent reduction in cost per BOE from refractured wells compared to new wells, and a potential of up to a 25 per cent increase in the oil recovery factor with a balanced portfolio.

To help achieve these results, the ACTIVATE service has leveraged several Halliburton products such as AccessFrac Stimulation Service, FiberCoil Tubing Service, FracInsightSM Service, Pressure Sink Mitigation Solution and Pinnacle’s Integrated Sensor Diagnostics to obtain sub-surface insight and bring together the needed expertise to make refracs more reliable and predictable.
