Shell and SAP to introduce oilwell data management solution

In order to enhance performance of oilwell and reservoir, multinational oil and gas company Shell and Germany-based software firm SAP would collaborate to develop a data management solution

According to SAP, the new data management tool would be enabled by SAP HANA.

SAP HANA’s architecture is designed to handle both high transaction rates and complex query processing on the same platform.

Steve Lucas, president of platform solutions at SAP, said, “The data management solution will deliver tools and best practice, empowering users to build a professional understanding of their assets and identifying opportunities in the operate phase.

“The new data analytics tool is the first step towards a renovated smart solution platform in Shell and an excellent example for leveraging the SAP HANA platform capabilities in a non-traditional SAP domain.”

The planned data management solution would integrate information from over 20 data sources in SAP HANA, added Lucas.

SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio would build the HTML5-based front-end of the data management system with an asset hierarchy and geospatial navigation and enhanced charting features, added the software firm.

The new data management tool would help to accelerate analytics, business processes and data processing, stated Shell.
