WFES Preview: Future energy challenges

The World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2012,  the leading international event for government and industry decision makers committed to finding viable, sustainable solutions to the worlds growing energy challenges returns for its fifth edition.

The event is under the patronage of H.H General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, will take place from January 16-19 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

Hosted by Masdar, Abu Dhabi's long-term investment in the commercial realisation of renewable energy and sustainable technologies, the World Future Energy Summit also features the annual Project Village, roundtable discussions, the Young Future Energy Leaders programme, and various corporate events and social engagements.

Over 26,000 attendees, including 3,000 delegates, 650 exhibiting companies, and 20 national pavilions, are expected to participate at WFES 2012.

Commenting on the significance of the fifth World Future Energy Summit, Frederic Theux, President of Reed Exhibitions, organizers of WFES, said, "The need for a clean energy future is no longer in question. The only question is how we achieve it. The World Future Energy Summit continues to play a valuable role in engaging the global community in driving innovation, trade and investment opportunities. WFES is a dedicated platform for real debate and the development of ideas and relationships that will enable knowledge sharing and the realization of a sustainable energy future for generations to come."

The theme of 'Powering Sustainable Innovation' will be the central topic addressed by more than 150 international speakers representing all viewpoints in the energy and sustainability debate.

The event will focus on innovation as the critical factor in mitigating future energy challenges. Innovation is seen as key to making clean energy technologies commercially viable and achieving energy efficiency.

Dr Sultan Al Jaber, Managing Director and CEO of Masdar, said, "Through the World Future Energy Summit, Abu Dhabi seeks to build bridges and create a platform for open dialogue. Our work is at a crucial stage - momentum has to be maintained in our endeavor to find solutions to future energy needs. WFES is the place for like-minded countries, companies and individuals to discuss this important topic and to encourage and action innovation."

Summit

This year’s Summit program has been designed to address the theme Powering Sustainable Innovation. As the global demand for energy continues to escalate, it is innovation which will transform our traditionally fossil fuel based energy into a diverse mix featuring renewable and sustainable energy sources. It is innovation which will enable the development of advanced clean energy technology and continue to make huge leaps forward in improving energy efficiency.

Throughout the four days of the Summit, the underlying theme of innovation will be seen across the framework of policy, business, technology and finance with ground breaking presentations from industry leaders, frank discussions among senior representatives from key players and valuable insights from respected analysts.

Innovate @ WFES

The newest addition to the WFES feature portfolio, Innovate @ WFES is a hub for start-up cleantech companies developing new technologies/services in the clean energy and environment industry; “Innovate @ WFES” targets products/services in the growth area of the product cycle.

Thirty five companies will exhibit in Innovate @ WFES from the following sectors:Solar PV, Wind energy, Smart Grid/Building IT, Water, Biofuels/biomass, LED lighting, Electric vehicles and Energy storage

Innovate @ WFES will be open to all exhibition and conference attendees; key industry players, venture capitalists and private investors to identify lucrative investment opportunities!

Project Village

The Project Village is held in association with Ernst & Young and Bloomberg New Energy Finance. Held for the first time in 2011, the Project Village will return in 2012 with over 40 projects from the Middle East, India and North Africa.

The Project Village offers a highly effective way for Project Developers to meet with the world’s leading solution providers (i.e. the finance and technology community). It is the ideal platform to conduct business in the renewable energy and low carbon market in order to maximize the networking and business opportunities during the four days (Jan 16-19) of the World Future Energy Summit 2012.
